I was just browsing my incredibly talented friend Rachel Peter's website this morning and came across something that caught my attention. Along with videos of her own amazing work, she had some clips from the DVD Playing for Change. It is an award-winning documentary that portrays the interconnectedness of all people - through music.
Here is the extended trailer:
I cannot help but be drawn to anything that demonstrates unity among various cultures. The images of people who have never met singing together (through modern technology)are powerful. One version of a song was recorded. The track was brought to other musician in other countries. They would listen to the track and sing or play along. In the studio, the tracks were put together and a single recording was made of musicians from literally all over the world.
Stand by Me:
While they were creating the DVD, the filmmakers decided they wanted to do something to help out those who had helped them. So a foundation was started. Already a music school has been built in South Africa, and there are other projects in the works.
The DVD won't be released until some time in the new year, but there are a number of songs available for free now at the Playing for Change website. Enjoy and be inspired.
